New Cessna light single prototype unveiled at Oshkosh today

Seems like I remember hearing Cessna was coming out with a "Cirrus killer". I'd guess that's what this plane is, not so much the answer to the Symphony.
 
I doubt it's the answer to the Symphony. The Symphony is a Cessna look-a-like, in my opinion. I agree that it's to combat the Cirrus. After all, the CEO did say that Cessna wants to concede it's thron to no one. Who else is threatening Cessna? Certainly not Symphony (and for that matter, neither is AMD or New Piper)!

Note: That AMD plug was a joke people -- for those who know about the Alarus.

I've never seen a low wing bird flying around.

It looks like you will have to steer with differential braking. Same kind of deal as a DA20 on the nose gear.
 
Something very odd about that wing. For starters, the taper. Then there's the tiny flaps. Lastly, the slight forward sweep!
 
Man, tough crowd. This is supposed to be big news. I guess no one has any love for small piston singles anymore.

Anywho... Strutless wing, free castoring nose wheel, unique wing, and it looks like 5 doors with a wide cabin. I like it lots.

And yes, this is the Cessna Next Generation Piston(Cirrus Killer). We'll see huh.

Well ive never seen a airplane flap its wings.

Looks to be the 152 of the 21st century.
 
Just to keep things straight, there were two new Cessnas at Oshkosh. The pictures that Joe put up are of the Light Sport Airplane that was on static display. aloft's pictures were the Next Generation aircraft (replacement for the 172?), and that plane only did a fly-by and is considered to be a very preliminary prototype.

From the way the posts are written I can tell that some people know that there were two different planes, but others might be confused into thinking that there was only one.
