Not to create mass panic, but this might be of note especially for those interested in rotary...
Today I went to an information session at my local community college that offers flight training as one of its degree programs. Based on the type of training you were there for (A&P, Fixed wing, Rotary wing), you were given a packet for that specialty. Then, everyone that was using VA funding AND going for rotary training was asked to step out with the VA rep for a sidebar meeting. I didn't go, as I was doing fixed wing, but was curious "what that was all about". When everyone returned, a few picked up the fixed wing packet and took their seats. Fortunately, one of them was sitting next to me.
When I asked him what was going on with the rotary folks, he told me that the VA rep had just received a notice that the rotary program was going to be under review of the VA and may risk some period of suspension. I suspect the VA is onto the fact that some companies in the rotary side of the house have been gouging prices and is now looking to do audits before allowing further funding.
Just something I observed and wanted to share. I do encourage those who can, to be proactive and prioritize any flight training in the event that the program funding gets decreased. I am concerned that this could extend beyond the rotary category.
