New ACS testing / Instrument

Does anyone know if the instrument written has a hard date of June 15th also ? In other words....is that the day the new test goes into play ? I know the checkride will follow the new standards on that day and after but wasnt sure about the written. Im close to doing the instrument written, and if this is true Im gonna shoot to have it knocked out prior to June 15 (if there are major changes to the test, dont wanna have to start from scratch as far as studying new material). I have the current Gleim which im using primarily for test prep.

Second part of the question......if I take the written prior to June 15, will it be valid for the instrument checkride taken under the new ACS ? At this point im looking at probably and end of june or early july checkride

Couldnt really find solid for sure answers, only an article here and there

Any info would be great, thanks !

If I remember correctly from our ACS briefing from the FAA, the written questions won't change with the switch from the PTS to the ACS. What is changing, however, are the reason codes for incorrect answers. Instead of a vague reference to "PLT414 Recall regulations - general right-of-way rules" the new ACS will break it down as "PA.III.B.K4" which can then lead the instructor and student to "PA = Private Pilot Airplane (Applicable ACS); • III = Airport & Seaplane Base (Area of Operation);• B = Traffic Patterns (Task); • K4 = Right of Way Rules (Element)" so instead of having to re-teach all right of way rules the instructor and student would only need to review traffic pattern rules. It will also be similar for the practical test as well, with DPEs and Examiners more able to narrow check ride failures to specific areas.

Take the written today, take it after June 15th. The questions will be the same.

I'm not sure if this helps or not but when I was studying I simply took repeated practice tests over and over after going through the questions/answers a few times. I took my instrument written in 12 minutes with a 99%.

thanks guys, appreciate it..... I dont see any reason I wouldnt take it before June 15 anyways, but just in case good to know that the current stuff Im using will still be helpful on a post June 15 written. I was under the false impression that the entire test bank was being thrown out and re-written with totally new questions...making the Gleim book or whatever else useless !

Wheelsup, Im basically reading the Gleim outlines and then taking and retaking the tests at the end until Im getting most right. Kinda the same idea you mentioned. My instructor wants me to show him two practice tests at 85% or greater to get his endorsement , so this is the way to go I think

Yeh I'm with wheelsup, the gleim/Asa books help, but drilling repeated tests to get 3x90+ is always good. Keep going over the wrong answers and they'll reduce over time.
