new 1500 hour rule and pilot pay

OK somebody may have touched on this, but i'm still a little confused since there seems to have been a few different variants.

With the new minimums Congrees is trying to pass, is it:

A) ATP Certificate
B) ATP Minimums
C) 1,500 TT

A and C. Doesn't really make since to have C because that is a prerequisite for an ATP already. They might as well also say you must be able to read, speak, and understand the English language, etc while they are at it.

Hmmmm, they already did with the "English" proficiant stamp (that they sold for a dollar), of course half the students currently training in this country with that endorsement "Still can has me to speak proper Ingrish".:insane: Listen to Orlando or Miami approach sometime...geezzz

I was only making a point that all they had to put in the bill was that an ATP license will now be required for a pt121 crewmembers. Having the verbiage of 1500TT is a moot point.

There is evidence to back it up. Someone posted awhile back the number of retirements American Airlines alone was going to have and it was not a small number.

All we can do is wait and see. But I have a feeling this bill will be swept under the rug in the Senate never to be heard from again.

Here is one thing people seem to forget. pilots are going to retire but what about the fleet?

The way I see this is that AA currently has 265 MD 82/83 jets (being phased out)

and they currently have 99 737-800 with 73 options best case they will have 172 of them in a few years. that is about 93 less aiplanes (best case scenerio) in the end.

That can only mean the AA fleet will be smaller meaning they wont have to get as many people. Just my 2 cents

1500TT is not moot. With the continued globalization of airlines, we may soon see Frozen ATPs in the U.S., and the airlines to save a buck will push to bend the rule since it only says ATP to a Frozen ATP, or take an ATP checkride and get the certificate at 1500 hours.

If the law says 1500 hours you cannot really go around that.

The FAA does not have a Frozen ATP so until they do it is moot.

IMO, that's like saying "Well, they haven't whipsawed us against Colgan yet, so scope is moot." We need to think ahead rather than being reactionary. In 2002, if you'd told people that every regional would be hiring guys with 250TT (or less) in large numbers, no one really would have believed you, either.
