New 1500 / ATP for 121 Rule, details?

Solution: hire guys with more than 250 PIC

Well yes, that goes without saying... :)

But for those who timed things such that 250TT were the minimums, I'm not sure that they should be disqualified from upgrading. I sincerely doubt that we're ever going to go back to "OMG, 250 TT, UR HIRED." Economic conditions plus the aforementioned, much debated, rule changes.

A 300 hour guy on PPW was recently hired by Piedmont. Not 250, but still...

Hmm, I should really send in a resume then. :)

Thoughts on that: If it's 300 of the right kind of flight time, he (or she) is super sharp, and the guy (or gal) is more aeronautically mature than I was at 300 hours (thought I knew a lot, turns out that I had only scratched the surface of what I didn't know)...low time pilots CAN operate airliners safely with appropriate Captainly supervision (see Europe...Also, for lack of Captainly supervision and first officer qualifications, see recent Embraer accidents in China). What that pilot will do when ATP time comes around, though, is another question. Is PDT paying enough so that one can build PIC time on the side? (Or do they type their pilots on the 8?)

During a recent phone interview with Ameriflight, the interviewer told me she had just received a resume of a regional FO with over 2000 TT and 107 PIC. Followed by "I can't even consider this application"

How is this possible? I mean adding up total PIC time let alone for PVT, INSTRUMENT AND COMMERCIAL REQUIREMENT exceeds 107.

My money is on a "how low will the bar go" thread by summer.

I'll put 20 bucks on 800 and 75 being the new standard by mid-summer.

Another 20 on some going as low as 500 and 50 by the end of the summer.

Unless the terrorists do something again. Then, all bets are off.

That confident with rising gas prices, eh?

Pretty disturbing that there are guys with less than 500 PIC flying passengers around. I can't say I blame management, they do whatever helps the bottom line. Has this ever come up in union negotiations? I think the unions should have some input on hiring standards.

Thanks! Interview still being set up but most likely CVG. Believe it or not my wife and I want OAK. We have family in the area.

Hopefully your wife gets a job here in OAK. Next to impossible to find affordable safe appartments near the airport.

I've heard Alameda is nicer than surrounding areas. If my interview goes well I'll be hitting you guys up for suggestions on living areas. I think there will be a lot of opportunities for my wife. If not were screwed financially. I'm sure she'll find something. I'm trying to focus on one thing at a time right now. Like study for the interview first, worry about moving to OAK later!

Good idea. Any chance of living with family? I lived with my sister in San Jose back when I was there and the commute sucked, but the price was right. It was probably the only way I could afford to live/work there.

i wouldnt say the "solution is to hire guys with at least 250 PIC. Theres are plenty of guys with 3000 PIC who wont touch the regionals because of pay. Wanna improve safety? Improve pay to attract more qualified applicants.

How is it even possbile to fly 121 and have less than 250 PIC? Im not trying to come off wrong, I just dont see how its possible. I have 200TT and 150 PIC.
