NetJets\' Gulfstreams

Hi guys!

Just curious as to why NetJets has different hiring tracks for Gulfstream applicants (500hours in Gulfstreams, according to NetJets.com). If you get hired to fly their other aircraft, can you not bid on a Gulfstream?

Thanks!
J.

Without giving a long drawn out answer, in a nutshell, the GIV/GVs are operated under a separate Part 135 certificate and have a different pilot group. If you are hired out of CMH you fly the other 10+ types and if you are hired out of SAV/HXD you fly the GIV/GVs only. There is no flow back and forth across these companies. Maybe in the future they will be combined, but for now we operate as different divisions of the same company.

Are those pilots part of the union or not?

Not yet.........

Currently the GIV guys are non-union.

Re: NetJets\' Gulfstreams

I hear that the non-union pilots get treated better than the union pilots. Is that true?

The reason I hear that this happens is because NetJets doesn't really like unions, so they give a new hire pilot the option to be union or non-union. This info cames from an ex-owner services executive, that I work with.

100% inaccurate. When a person interviews, he either interviews for NJ(A) or NJ(I). They interview with different departments in different cities. There is no "choice" between the two at either interview. Which does the company prefer? Well, njA has 2000 pilots and njI has 250.

I didn't mean it as flame-bate.

So please don't take it that way.

The guy who told me that used to work at owner services and claims that he was a big wig over at NetJets. I never believed him but wanted to ask just to make sure.

I know that one of the benefits of flying for NetJets is being able to live wherever you want. Can you live outside the U.S. also, and still use that benefit?

Thanx

I think that you might have 2 completely seperate issues here you're confusing into one - NetJets doesn't give you an option as to which pilot group you're in - as Capt. said you're either hired into the Gulfstreams out of SAV or you're hired into the CMH fleet - think of it as 2 completley seperate companies under the corporate umbrella.

Now, that being said, when you're hired you certainly do have the option of joining or not joining the union! It's like that at every other operator as well - no one can FORCE you to join any union - the decision is totally up to you. I think that it would be ridiculously stupid to not join the union but the choice is yours. The caveat is that since you will be working under rules and rates established by the union you'll still have to pay the union dues rates but you don' have to become a member.
