Nervous flyer

Truthfully, if a passenger expresses to me they are nervous, i'll say to them "you're in luck! because i'm the most selfish pilot you will ever meet, and as long as I keep myself safe, you, being at most a couple feet behind me, will also remain safe". That usually gets a chuckle out of them, and calms the nerves.

Haha, I like that. Might have to add that to my repertoire. I get aaaaaaall sorts of comments from nervous passengers. I'm fine with that, but sometimes they border on insulting. Your response is a great way to calm them down and still get my point across.

Still? Can't say they ever stopped, but yes, airlines still fly polar routes.

Yep. When we flew from Fairbanks to Frankfurt we were within a few miles of the North Pole.
