It isn't very far, you can walk it in under 45 min. The neighborhood is decent. I wasn't concerned about getting jumped but I am a good sized guy as well. There are plenty of resturants within walking range as well. You might try using google street view to give you an idea. The plaza to the east of the hotel was pretty neat.

There is one fast food chicken place near the airport that will put you in the hospital or at least the bathroom. I forget the name but it is horrid.

Chicken Express is good, it has the Dr. Pepper with cane sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup. Delicious!

I don't know why, but the Docta stopped making it that way. The Hard 8 in Stephenville had the good stuff too and I hate that it is gone now.

Dr. Pepper still makes it with cane sugar. I just bought some at King Soopers (<--- not a typo) today. I saw it on the shelf and thought of this thread so I tried it. It's called Heritage Dr. Pepper. They have Pepsi and Mountain Dew as well.
