Neighborhood Surrounding GKY

N519AT

Ahh! This is how I change this!
Looks like I'll be doing the multi program at GKY in about a week or so. I'm too young to rent a car without getting gouged like crazy, and I was just probably going to walk from my hotel (Quality Inn @ Arlington Highlands) to GKY. I was just wondering if anyone has any insight as to what the neighborhood is like around GKY and if it's possible for to walk to the airport without getting jumped?

Dan

I seem to remember it being in a area where theres lots of highway. I'd ask ATP if you could rent one of their rooms while you're there, they might have one free inside the building.

There's actually not much of anything out there. Seriously.

Look into renting a car or at least a bicycle while you're there. North Texas in general sucks for public transportation, and in the DFW metroplex you really do need a car to get around, go grocery shopping, etc.

Stay far, far away from DFW metroplex public transit. Srsly.

I just came from there last week and the area is very quiet (minus the airplanes). The should be no problem walking to and from the airport if needed.

One thing to take in mind is that it has snowed there TWICE this year! Weird.

Not much of anything there as long as you stay south and west of the mall. For the most part the area is all highway with nothing really to be scared of unless you're an 8-bit frog.

The Quality Inn is on the access road of I-20, one exit away from the airport. It is about a mile and half walk and you have to cross the interstate as well. So there are no real sidewalks or anything.

Cabs run about 10 bucks each way and there is no public transit option for that route. The instructors are not forced to give anyone rides, but if you are nice and offer to buy them lunch or something, they usually will. If yours won't, I will.

One thing that I noticed is that there aren't any exit numbers, just exit names. I'm use to getting off at exit 18 or something, but instead you have to know the name like 6 Flags Drive.

I did all of my training there. ATP. Nothing to worry about at all. There's
a good coffee shop on the corner called Mochalux and the usual fast food places, Taco Bueno etc. I think the Wal-Mart isn't far. If you're interested then, there's an Enterprise Car Rental in back of ATP.

That's funny that you say that. When I moved out east, I was confused by the whole exit number thing . . . lol.

Thanks for all of the input.

It's really too bad that I can't rent a car (I'm 20) without being charged up the ass (we can totally say ass on here, right?). One company that was willing to rent to me was asking just shy of $500. No thanks.
