You know, these ones:

TAS 10kts or 5%
Unable to climb 500fpm
Missed approach
Altitude change VFR on top
...etc.

Non radar I use FOE:
FAF inbound
Outer marker inbound
ETE changes by 3min

I used to have a good one for the radar reports... but it's been a while (despite using these reports EVERY time I fly :sarcasm:)

Just don't get me killed, violated, or fired should be all that we need to worry about :)

CCCCLLLUUME

Crossing final approach fix
Crossing Mandatory reporting point
Change of airspeed +- 10kts or 5 % whichever's greater
Change of ETA +- 3 minutes
Leaving assigned altitude
Leaving holding
Loss of nav/ com or any other pertinent equipment
Unable to maintain 500ft/min rate of climb
Unforecast weather conditions
Missed approach
Entering holding

I like SNAP because it organizes the kinds of reports; plus, it helps differentiate the part 91 from the AIM.

Safety...com/nav equipment loss; unforecast weather; matters relating to safety of flight [all part 91, "shall" not "should"]

Navigation...arriving at holding fix; leaving holding fix; miss

Altitude...vacating assigned; changing when VFR-on-top

Performance...climb/descent limits; TAS changes

Radar contact lost? They're all basically Nav:
FAF inbound; position reports; ETA change.

FAAMUSHFEW

F - failure of equipment
A - altitude, leaving assigned
A - airspeed change of 10 knots or 5%
M - missed approach
U - unable to climb or descend at 500 ft/min
S - safety of flight is disrupted
H - holding, leaving or entering
F - final approach fix
E - enroute time change of plus or minus 3 min
W - unexpeded weather

The FEW is non-radar.

That is all!

SAMHAP

S-Safety of Flight issues
A-Altitude
M-Missed Approach
H-Holding
A-Avionics
P-Performance which encompasses eta, true airspeed etc...

That may be one of the more ridiculous mnemonics I've come across.

How about writing it down in an accessible place in the airplane?

It's been 7.5 years since I first learned it and it's still stuck in my tiny brain.:D

I don't have my CFII binder accessible, but I remember always using something along the lines of MARVELOUSVFR500. Too bad I'm struggling to actually fill in the blanks for it now... haha

Okay now I remember my old one! TULSAHAM (tulsa ham)

Just popped back into my head reading your guys' responses!

If you think it might be something ATC should know about, tell them. Granted, you'll take a hit in the "steely eyed aviator" department, but you'll be in good company (the rest of us.) If you think they need to know what you're doing, just sound cool later. Common sense goes a long way.

A ssigned required, requested
M issed approach
A ispeed change 5/% or 10 knots
R eaching clearance climit
V acating altitude
E ta change of 3 mins
L eaving clearance limt
O utermarker -non-radar
U nforcasted wx
S afety of flight
D eviation
V fr on top flight altitude changes
F inal approach fix
R adio failure
500 unable to maintain 500ft/min descent or climb

hope that helps :)

You and I might have to disagree on that one. I agree 100% slogging around the US/Canada.

Naha control might have a different idea about that, though. The Japanese ATC doesn't have the sense of humor we do....;)

Overheard coming into Tokyo:
Fukaoka Control: "Untied 145 heavy, turn right heading one zero zero"
Untied 145: "Okie Dokie"
Fukaoka: "Untied 145 heavy, answer Roga or affimative. Noooo Okie-dokie"

Fair enough. Tell you what, you get me a job where I have to talk to Naha Control, and I'll memorize the AIM and recite it for you. Backwards. ;)

Here is another one to add to this list:
MARVELOUS VFR 500

M- Missed
A- Airspeed +- 10 or 5%
R- Reaching a hold or fix
V- Vacating an Altitude
E- ETA +- 3 Mins (no radar)
L- Leaving a hold or fix
O- Outter MArker (no radar)
U- Un forecast Weather (no radar)
S- Safety of Flight

V- VFR on top altitude change
F- FAF (no radar)
R- Radio or Nav equipment problems

500- unable to maintain 500fpm climb

Haha, I can totally imagine someone with a Japanese accent saying this and it's crackin' me up.:laff:
