Hello all, Im an aspiring ATC and I just had a few general questions. ATC is known to be one of the most stressful jobs today, which i'm sure you've heard. So as working first hand in that profession, is it as bad as these sites say it is? Also, is the job market well open nationwide?

The actual nuts and bolts of working traffic is not bad at all. There is just so much other BS that goes along with this job that makes it aggravating, especially the politics.

The job used to be a lot better, it does kinda blow right now. The new guys (and gals) coming in are really getting a hose job, they are really being jerked around by the FAA. Once the White House changes hands I think things will ease up quite a bit. There is a lot of dead wood at the top of the FAA right now and they will start to vanish over the next year or so, things should start to improve then.
 
Being hired 4 months ago into the FAA my co-workers keep telling me how good it used to be before some recent pay cut.

Nonetheless I like controlling traffic and the salary isn't horrible. Having 5 years in the Marine Corps, accruing annual leave NOW is about 28 days a year (20 leave + 8 regular days off).

So there are things i like and don't like (new dress code and cannot drive out for lunch) but there are things that i'm looking forward to as well.

The job of the controller requires patience and concentration AND the ability to work well with others. It's a grand ol' time!
