Need help with Audio/video

I plan on making a video with a friend pretty soon with a lot of footage from in flight up at the cockpit. I was wondering what the best way to capture the ATC is? I would like to have all inbound, outbound, and internal conversations on the video.

Anyone know what the best way of doing this is? It'll be a Cessna 172

Thanks!

Record it on the ground. Plug a radio scanner into a tape recorder at the airport.

Or get one of these: http://www.marvgolden.com/headsets/adapters.htm (the last item on the page).

You'll probably get best results doing both of these, and using a multi-channel mixer in post.

this is pretty funny, cause i'm not only a pilot, but an audio/video consultant as my day job, and I have no clue how to do this. I know there are devices that you plug your headset into, then plug that into the panel and this allows you to use your cell phone thru your headset or to play an ipod into your headset, but not sure how exactly this happens, and haven't used one myself. And i'm not sure if you would get stereo or mono audio into your camera. Make sure you camera has an aux audio input, i'm guessing its like most consumer models from a box store and has 1/8th inch audio inputs, which would be easy enough.

If you want to record the flight from inside the cockpit and hear the Audio from ATC including the intercom you will need an adapter that will connect the camera from the Intercome Headset port to the cameras audio in. It depends on the camera but most will accept an RCA or 1/4" audio cable. Here is a link to what your probably looking for:

JB-22 Video Recorder Adapter
This product allows you to interface your video recorder with the aircraft intercom system. Great for creating your own aerial videos without excess cabin noise. Records sounds transmitted through the microphone only.

Its at the bottom.

You could always download the ATC from liveatc.net if the option is available then overlay it with the video in windows moviemaker or my personal favorite, pinnacle studio.

If you run everything through something like this you'll can take one of the audio outs and change it to an RCA or whatever other (8.5mm plug?) into your camera.

Does your airplane have at least 3 headphone jacks? Then just get an adapter and record from that. If it only has 2 you'll need a splitter then adapter.

I have a RST intercom that has a plug that goes into my camera mic jack that does that. Every thing that goes out or comes into my com radio is on the tape. Here is a short example. Bob

You could purchase the aforementioned cable that hooks up into the camera and audio panel. I as well am interested in doing the same thing for flight training purposes. Since my video camera does not possess a mic jack, I have bought a digital voice recorder with one available so that I can overlap video and audio. I have also heard that you could put a small microphone inside the ear cup of your headset and that would work just as fine.
