Need help choosing a cheap headset

I don't know anything about the two that you referred to. My original headset was the ASA one. Depending on where you get it, price ranges probably from 120 to 140. The good part though is it has a lifetime warranty. Just send it back and they send you a brand new one. My original CFI recommended that one for just that reason. I keep it as a spare now.

I loaned H40 new last summer forgot mine at home. Bad. Squeezes your head like hell mike is not sensitive and you will be sweating under those plastic earbuds. Don't know about skygeek one.

Added: You can borrow my SoftComm Silver edition headset for those several flights if somebody can pick it up in NYC and bring it back after you done. I am flying with my Bose.

Maybe just scope out ebay and find a used one if you really only need it for a short period of time. You might be able to get a DC H10-20 or -30 you could turn around and resell (disclaimer - haven't scoped out prices in awhile, maybe the new ASA one is a better deal now)

Sigtronics makes pretty cheap headsets. I have a Sigtronics S-40S Headset I use in my plane for passengers. Decent sound quality and less than $200.00 new.

A used Dave Clark is the best deal in cheap headsets, as you can turn around and sell it for what you paid for it when you are done.

Both FTW!

That is what I would do. EBay, Craigslist, Amazon. You would be surprised what you can get used. I would rather have a good used headset then a crap new one.
