I don't know anyone in the greater Austin/San Marcos area giving CFI instruction. Pilot's Choice is thorough but good...you'd be looking at longer than a few weeks to go through all the lesson plans, but the flying goes quickly. You might be better off taking a trip to Dallas for that.

Talk to Killbilly about tail wheel endorsements. He got his in Burnet I believe (quite a drive) and loved it, but he may have found some more local folks too.

oh man. does NOT sound fun at all!!

My CFI ride lasted from 6:30 Am to 4PM with about a 30 minute break (just enough for me to pre-flight and take a leak). The oral was almost 7 hours, and we did nearly every maneuver in the PTS. But it was not the hardest checkride I had. Just be prepared to pull out the books and teach from them. It's not to hard. You might try the ATP route. It'll get you done in two weeks guaranteed.

i would just go to ATP and get it but all i see on their site is the "uber cfi course" that takes you from zero to MEI/CFII for 5 grand in 2 weeks.

i JUST need the CFI cert.

San Marcos is a good bet, I can find out the name of the CFI that has been there forever and get you the info. I talked to him about getting a CFI (havent done it yet, hate dealing with Feds) and I know he can get it done for you. I also think they have access to tailwheel. PM me if you want me to do the legwork.

nobody mentioned: cfi initial must be done in a complex. not too many retractable single-engine taildraggers around these days.

Yes, you would have to have a complex for a Initial CFI rating. But, you don't always have to have a complex airplane for your first CFI checkride.

ahh, didnt realize that! thanks! i guess an old arrow or something is about as cheap as it gets for CFI initial?

Definitely look into San Marcos. I know for a fact that they had an arrow when I first moved here last summer. It's the only one around that I know of.

Ok so i have a potential gig that would start in early June, but they are really pushing for me to get my CFI prior to it (which, im sure makes everyone here very happy to hear me say, LOL) and I also want/need the endorsement to fly a proper aircraft (conventional gear)....

First, how quickly can one do a CFI rating, if we fly every day? Anyone around central TX do tailwheel? Both at the same time maybe??

Thanks!

Joy at Texas Taildraggers in Arcola, TX (Houston).... Don't know if that's too far for you but it's top notch instruction from her.

I know a couple guys up in Waco that can do your tailwheel. But the CFI isn't going to fit your schedule up here. I started my MEI in Feb and was going strong but the Seneca's been down for a month and our Arrow is going to be down for...well, a long time.

If you can't find anything around Austin let me know and I can make a few calls for you.

Plus he's a DJ. CFIs during the day, spins records at night.

And spun me in a Tomahawk the first time I was up in the air. That's when I switched to Jerry.

Sorry I'm late to this thread.

Burnet's not THAT far from S. Austin...about an hour. Even from Buda or Kyle it's not that bad if you head west first and bolt up 290.

Ken Wittikiend at ProMark Aviation is your guy. He does do CFI training.
