Necrotizing bacterial infection

anyone here ever get a "flesh eating bacteria" infection? Anything out of the ordinary returning to flying? Obviously it's an acute condition and the odds of recurrence are the same as any random person getting it, so I'd imagine once treatment is done there shouldn't be too much of a problem, but I don't know much about this.

I'd say with a doctor's note stating you can return to normal activities and that the infection is cleared up, you'd be okay. Probably take that letter to your AME, have him give you another one.

I would say you're gonna have to report this on your next medical. Go to the AME prepared with pathology reports and notes from the attending doctor. They're gonna wanna see all that stuff.

But the last thing you wanna do of course is take the advice of strangers on the internet.. just follow-up with your AME and doctors, you should be fine.

Thanks. Yeah, I know it needs to be reported, I plan on going to my ame, just wondering while convalescing if anyone here has gone through this and had any tips or knew of things to watch out for.

I contracted Staph which almost cost me my leg before I started flying. The AME who granted my medical read all my doctors releases and cleared me with no issues or limitations.

ETA: Due to the injury there is a small chance it can flare up again and my medical was granted 6weeks after the conclusion of treatment for it.

I think "Flesh Eating Bacteria On A Plane!" is in post-production at New Century Films even as we speak.

Hope you're better soon. Do you know how you contracted it?

Thanks, I'm doing ok considering there is a big hole in my leg and I'm attached to a wound vacuum.

Just got unlucky. I was tree skiing, and hit a buried tree stump. Ski popped off and I smashed my shin through the stump. Had bruising and an abrasion less than the size of a nickel. It was doing well with ice and elevation for about a week. Then he wheels feel off. I got really lucky it stayed in soft tissue and not the fascia layer, that'd be a much different discussion, so for bad luck I'm really fortunate.

I'm terribly sorry to hear about your plight. I have a friend who lost a leg while fishing. He cut his toe. No big deal until about 48 hours later. It spread from his foot up into his calf. Doctors had to amputate his leg just below the knee.

I'm glad you're not facing the same situation and it appears you're well on the path to being fully healthy. Here's to a speedy and full recovery.

@gne in prog hate to hear that man, heal up quick! Had a buddy nearly lose his leg to that nasty infection after a bike crash. Let me know if you need me to run a care package down to you from Boulder, you know strippers & blow kinda care package.

Haha. Appreciated, but I'm doing well. Healing up much quicker than they thought I would, in fact I'm having a skin graft Monday, about a week and a half earlier than originally planned.
