Neat video on spin-resistant Icon Aircraft

Scott Spangler (aviation blogger) picked up on this, and I agree with him: despite being a promotional video, I don't think you can do much of a better job showing and explaining spin resistance.

I thought so. A good portion of my career these days is in courseware development, and it's no easy feat to accurately describe something so quickly without committing a "technical disservice" to the subject matter.

They've been working on that thing for a loooooooooong time. They're out of TSP just north on Mojave, CA. I've seen them landing it out on Lake Isabella. It's nice to see a light sport company actually do some spin testing on their product.

And Sweet Jeebus I want one of these.

I mean, I've had my heart set on a Citabria or a Husky for a while, but this could definitely swing me away.

EDIT - MSRP of right around $139K, which is steep, but it seems like an awful lot more utility than a Skycatcher, which is roughly in that price ballpark.

Another interesting bit is that you can buy it with fixed landing gear vs. retractable. Naturally, if it's fixed gear, you can't do any water landing (can also get it without gear entirely and be seaplane only) but I think it's cool that they give you an option.

Question - they indicate that the glass instrumentation is "required for VFR night flight." Why would that be? Is it just that they don't offer steam gauges?
