Navajo Tips and Tricks

I also love the Navajo,

I was based in S. Fla. for many years doing the Ya Man trips to the islands with few different models of the PA31, (2) -310's, (1) 325, (1) 325 Panther, (2) 350's & (1) lead sled of a P Nav

Other then the P Nav, all the models are nice birds and handle a lot alike.

Takeoff-balls to the walls like Roger Roger states, doing so I have always preferred to smoothly increase the throttles until the turbo's start to spin up and watch the boost before continuing to full throttle, I have had waste gates cause VERRY high boost situation.

I would Climb out at 36" 2400, Cruise 30" 2200 18 GPH per side, the 18 GPH per side seemed to be the magic number, we actually fired a pilot for running below 18 GPH per side and burning up the jugs, his mix master lean of peak idea was not doing him justice.

I think I have a little over 1000-1200 hrs.' in the PA31 gotta check

I had Catastrophic Engine Failure, Grossed out, coming out of rock sound climbing through 4000 and decided I'm going to Nassau, It can fly, I can testify to that.

Save to good engine!! , watch the temps, when I got things clean and secured I pulled power back to cruise to prevent over temping, a little richer and cowl flap adjustment also helped.
