NASA's new plane won't have front window for pilots

No, I beat you both to it. Don't any of you communists recognize Pancho Barnes? Pudnockers. MISERABLE goddamn mouse• sheep-herder PUDKNOCKERS.

I had the pleasure of hanging out with Sam Shepard a number of times. Great guy! Loved to drink and tell stories...and listen. He had a way of discovering the interesting stories within everybody he met.

He was a true renaissance man. He had some good work left in him when he died a couple of years ago.

For all this talk about visual approaches, imma let y’all finish but I gotta say this first.

I am tired of clearing someone for the visual approach and instead of them turning in towards the airport they continue to fly a 90 degree base and then make a 90 degree intercept on to the final approach course and wind up with a 6 mile gap behind their sequence. It has become such a problem that I have stopped giving visual approaches if you have anyone behind you.

Some conditions have been placed on some visual approaches, especially at night, but the statement that visual approaches are being banned left and right is not accurate.

Well, ya can’t quite go direct the airport. Most airline policies want you established on a 3-5 mile final all lined up. Usually turning towards whatever passes for a FAF these days does the trick.

The was a rash of noise a few years ago about staying inside the limits of the Class B (a requirement), so I’m sure some are cautious about that as well.

I’d love it if they set themselves up for a 3-5 mile final instead of a 7-10. Then I’d still be giving out visual approaches!

Kids these days!! :aghast:
Or, perhaps to take a less generation-bashing tack on this leg, "Some people's kids!" My grandmother's favorite utterance in the '20s and onward... She was squarely a Yank. Had she been from your neck 'the woods, it surely would have been and would remain, "bless your heart."

Yeah, Yeager, by all accounts, is kind of a poopyhead. But he sat in close proximity to Bob Hoover and Pancho Barnes, and neither of them elected to kill him, so he must have some redeeming qualities. Plus, I'd put that movie in the top ten of "almost as good as the book", and I use that advisedly. The whole "Aborigines save the capsule" thing was a little silly, but the rest of it was pitch-perfect for Wolfe's book, and that ain't easy.
Yeah... well, both of them (and others) SERIOUSLY CONSIDERED doing so... with malice aforethought.
