NASA FORMS??

I have a question about NASA forms. ( the ACR 277B) I don’t understand how this can get you out of an enforcement action. in reading the immunity policy it seems like they are saying “we won’t use this against you unless you really did something wrong.” Has anyone know of a pilot who actually was saved by a NASA form? Or is it total BS?

Check out AC 00-46D. It has a bunch of info. on the ASRS. I don't personally know anyone who has been saved by one. I have filed a few over the past few years- but only two in fear of enforcement actions. It is my understanding that as long as the violation does not involve a "criminal action" (whatever that is) than you are immune to enforcement actions. Whatever you do, make sure you get a Certificate of Sending or whatever its called from the Post Office, because if you do not send it within 10 days of the incident in question, than it will do you no good.

Grumpy raises his hand. Here here Yupp I did it. Flying pipe at Waco during the Monetary Summit. Busted the TFR. Escorted out by Helos and had a nice chat with the Secret Service. Filed the NASA form[thankfully] and waited six months to find out what was going to happen.

First you get a letter of proposed action from the FAA.
Then you have a chance to reply to said letter explaining why you were so stupid.

Then you get another letter saying [in my case] that they are going to pull your ticket for 90 days, [good by job] .
The letter in part states, By reason of the foregoing violations you are alleged to have committed, and pursuant to the authority vested in the FAA, we propose to suspend your airman cert. for a period of 90 days

If you have filed the NASA form in time. [one every 5 years] is allowed,. Then although the “action” is on your record, the punishment is not carried out.

To quote in part; WAVER OF PENATLY The administrator has determined that you are entitled to a waver of penalty under the Aviation Safety Reporting Program, by reason of your having filed a timely report of the incident which is the subject of this case under that program.
Accordingly, the suspension of your airman pilot cert. Ordered herein, although remaining a matter of record, will not actually be imposed. Etc.etc.
