NAS North Island Crash; 2 punched

I'm happy it wasn't you, I hope your friends are recovering. I do have one question, ejections are pretty violent, are those folks done flying for the USN?
Can’t answer your question about employment with the USN, but gals wont date them anymore since their spines compressed in the ejection and they are no longer 6 feet tall.

I can’t comment on Navy policies, but my dad managed to keep flying for the Air Force back in 1973. I would imagine it depends on the individual and if they suffered any immediately debilitating injuries from the ejection.

Long ago, when I was a brand new FO, I was once sitting in the crewroom waiting out a weather delay, listening to three old timers argue who had it worse on the F4. All three of them had ejections, and two of them had had two ejections, so they had to use number of swings under canopy before hitting the ground as a tie breaker.

No, there is no rule saying you cant fly after an ejection. I know several people who were back flying within a few weeks. Most of the time, people are a little banged up, sometimes with some flail injuries. The modern seats aren’t quite as violent as the older seats…..rocket technology has allowed them to be slightly more gentle on the spine, and also useable in a much bigger envelope than the seats of yester year. Still, something i have absolutely no interest in doing myself of course :)
