The "D" in the airport diagram means that measured runway declared distance information is available for that field; covering info such as clearway, obstacle free area, stopway, runway safety area, weight bearing capacity etc. Refer to the Airport Facilities Directory for that airport to find this info.
What the common reason you see this? I see that an airport, just for example, IAD doesnt have one http://204.108.4.16/d-tpp/0906/05100ILD12.PDF . But JFK does...So why would some have it and not others?
