With Doug going up for the 767ER I started wondering.

With the advance in technology, that being GPS. Will reporting points using longitude and latitude when crossing the pond be replaced with GPS/RNAV waypoints?

I'd think that GPS would be the wave (get it wave) of the future not only in terms of land based navigation but also for trans-atlantic as well!

I am sure GPS will take over at some point but i highly doubt it will be in the near future. GPS unfortunately is not an indpendant nav aid system like the good all IRS/INS. In fact if your primary means of nav system is GPS, FAA requires you to do GPS prediction report before flying over remote areas. Most Challenger 300 are equipped with GPS as their primary nav aid. There are days that the GPS prediction report does not work- days when the Coast Guard does not update them. It really sucks because FAA can nail you hard if you fly without the report!
