...she bought me XPlane for the PC.

The cover claims that it "actually surpasses Flight Sim 2000"

well, I'll be the judge of that - I'm going to boot it up right now!

I prefer X-Plane over MSFS myself. After installing it from the DVD, be sure to download the latest version from x-plane.com,it's up to v8.11 (with the 8.15 beta expected soon).

X-Plane is more or less a one-man show, so many aspects of X-Plane are not as polished as you might expect, but it's unbeatable for IFR practice in your underwear.

anyone know when 2k6 is coming out, or if there will be a 2k6 at all?

[/ QUOTE ]

Microsoft itself knows when it comes out, and yes there will be a FS2006.

I heard that was like $250+ game..That true?

[/ QUOTE ]

Absolutely not! Version 8 is $50 from x-plane.org, and if you're on the economy plan, Version 7 is available from them for $34. Not a terribly huge difference between the two, frankly. Better graphics and much higher framerates out of v8, but for head-down IFR stuff, v7 is just as good. Plenty of add-on planes available for download from x-plane.org too.

Well, I would suspect maybe around 2006.

Just a wild ass guess.

As a Mac user I use XPlane at home and MSFS2004 at my girlfriend's house. They're both good for what they're good at. I'd say that MSFS gives a better impression of the "whole" of flying than xplane. But XPlane is better for realistic flight characteristics. I use XPlane 7.63 because my computer doesn't have all that much ram, but It's still a great simulator. I also like that it comes with an aircraft maker software, I made an Embraer 175 if anyone is interested.

have yall ever checked out VATSIM? Everyone flys online and you have reall ATC to. I have watched several reall world airline pilots try it and they say its as reall as it get without being in the reall thing.

I know, I know... after I made my post, I realized the 2k6 thing was kinda lame... my attempt at being creative! Thanks for the responses, and hopefully we'll see *2006* (happy Capt. Bob?

It is just to hard to set up all the programs and stuff. I wish I could. It would be really cool talking to real ATC and seeing real pilots flying around.
But is there ATC at most major airports. I cant expect Live ATC 24/7 can I?

they just came out with the new pilot client "Squawk Box 3" now everything is in one program which is integrated in FS so its super simple now. Unfortunetly theres not 24/7 ATC but its getting better and better everyday, i beliave they hit the 75,000 mark for members the other month. The skys get busier everyday.
