My time to shine with Cape Air

We called because our Ops or dispatch wouldn't release our flight unless we had updated runways EVERY hour. They wanted it with braking action from you guys. They annoyed us just as much as we annoyed you. I've had ops call our station manager in the middle of the night and say nobody is updating runways when we don't have a scheduled arrival for like 4 hours?!

Typically, I looked outside to see if anything drastic occurred over the hour to change it or not. Otherwise, I didn't call so I didn't keep bother you guys. Lol....just prepare for this winter though, they'll be calling a lot...I'm sure of it. I'm not there anymore though.
I didn't care about the calls, I was never bothered by them. I'm not there anymore either, moved down to Texas early this year.

One question, how long did it take after the interview to get the job offer?

Two days after my interview, i was called and they told me that they would like to offer me a FO position if i was interested. For some people though, i heard it took about 4-5 days.

Could someone explain, with respect to the union and seniority how they schedule the part time guys please? It would be informative to hear the basics of how that works with a line based system. Thanks!

Thanks for that info. I am thinking they will also help me decide on where to go, especially since they probably want me to be a captain as fast as possible?
Hey dru, have they told you how many hours you can expect to fly in a year? I'd also think they would want to send you to a station that don't normally carry full loads so that you may get as many hours as possible in the right seat. Congrats by the way, I applied at about the same number of hours that you have but got the canned TBNT e-mail a few weeks after the interview. Rock on!

@Cóndor They might have given me a number but i do not recall. They did say it is a bidding system but honestly i would want to stick in the East coast if i could. At least that is what i want right now.

Now you are the second person that told me they turned you down. I am not sure why that is because in my interview class of 19 in October, i am pretty sure 90% got the job. When was your interview? What do you think you did not get it?

It's been a couple of years, but when I was part time I had to email crew scheduling a month in advance the days I was available. At the time it was three days per month, but I believe it's been changed to 5 with at least a couple of those days being concurrent (possibly a weekend, but I can't remember). I kept my seniority number, but there was no guarantee that you would be brought back full time on request. I sincerely doubt that would be a problem today and I'd actually be quite surprised if they were still offering part-time positions at all these days. It was a phenomenal setup at the time though.

It was earlier this year . . . my recent flying had all been VFR single-engine at a flying club 'til then and no ME flying in more than 10 years so that's probably what did me in . . . also got asked about any failed check-rides but I turned that one into a positive learning experience. I'd say the success percentage was similar from the people that got interviewed that day as well.

My flying was all VFR too with skydivers. The failed check ride part should not have been a red flag i would think. I know a couple of people that had that in my class but still got in. Maybe the ME part did, but i wasn't current either when i went in Multi either. Then again i was just a few months of not being current.

Are you planning on trying them again?

Thanks for the reply! On the days you were available how did they decide who flew what? On the month prior, when you gave them your availability did they give you a sort of composite line? or was it more like airport reserve where you might fly but might not?

I don't think we had more than a couple of PT guys at the time and we were spread out through the company so it was more a case of if they needed you they would let you know ahead of time. It wouldn't be a line per se, more like a TDY if you had to travel, or filling in for a pilot who had called out or was on vacation. They gave a couple days notice at least. In the six months I spent as a part time pilot (out of BWI) I flew Dan to LNS one day and took a spare plane to the LNS airshow for a static display and to look pretty in my uniform. That was about it. But 2011 was a different world for 9K. It was a great way to stay in CASS and keep travel benefits, but the only PC I was ever worried about was after 4 months of part time status. Thank you BG!

Yep. I liked the presentation that they provided and the way the interview was conducted,as well as their customer service culture. Keep us posted as you progress through their intake process!

Well I just had my interview today, it went great I think! I really liked the two guys doing the interview, very professional. Seems like a great company. Should know if I got a job offer by this time next week, and I'm 100% accepting it if it's offered

Do you remember who did the interview? Chances are that they will be doing your training if you get hired.

Levi the pilot recruiter was one, and an older gentleman that I think is the chief instructor pilot, can't remember his name. Both very nice guys

That is great news my friend. Good luck to you and have tons of fun! It is a great time being out here and everyone is super helpful. One tip, i would give you is to be patient during your training and be prepared to spend 2 months if they get backed up. But always be prepared. You can also message me if you need anything.

P.S. My friend from my alma mater is also in the same class as you so i am pretty sure i will hear updates from him about the training for you guys.
