My students late and I'm on here...

Everybody can have a bad day, but if it happens more than once or twice I'm pretty blunt about it... "looks like you have too much other stuff going on, and my schedule is already tight with other students so I have to keep things on track to be fair to everyone, so let me know if anything changes with your schedule where you can fly consistently and on time...". They either straighten up or leave, either way... win!
 
Just means we have a shorter flight. Charge for the time they are late is fair, and I rarely find it bothersome to let them know that. Above all, they are the customer, and I work for them. If they want to be late and pay me to eat my lunch while I wait, that works for me. Flight training is stressful enough, no need to add more by getting worked up over something I have little control over. Perhaps I can actually taste my food instead of inhaling it in between flights. MMmm...PB&J's..
 
Eh, maybe I'm just on island time here in Florida, but I never get worked up over late students. Between weather, maintenance, fuel trucks, etc, etc, etc - there are so many delays you can't predict. Why get bent out of shape when it is the person paying you?
 
The mere fact that he employs a GPS to arrive at the airport to which he has been several times already likely means that things in the long run will not bode well for him when you introduce him to pilotage and deduced reckoning....

I find the matter somewhat unsettling, I call BS.
 
I once showed up for a lesson only to be told that my instructor wasn't there. He'd been offered a chance to fly a twin and he blew me off. No phone call, no message, nothing. I was in college at the time, and had to take a bus to the airport. It was too late to catch the return trip and so I had to wait a for the next one. Two hours of my life wasted because of his inconsideration. I wonder what he would have said if I'd asked for the next lesson free as compensation for my wasted time.
