My side of the story (Falcon F/O)

I'm also with you on the fact that whatever the Spirit MEC decides to label him, that's what I will go by.
+1, I too will defer my opinion to the judge and jury (the Spirit MEC), which as of now is still SCAB status! I do give you props though for coming out into the forums to explain yourself. Much more than I can say for the guy who sat to your left during those flights.

I am curious why you flew back?

You have not answered this question, the rest I can understand to some degree although it does take a pretty large leap of faith. You, by your own admission, knew that you were flying a Spirit flight upon landing.

I thought the liveatc post was pretty incriminating, but that's assuming he was the one on the coms.

Still, leave it to the Spirit pilots to decide.

I knew what was happening at that point, I just didn't understand the implications.
Which implications?

You understood that you were now going to fly a flight that other pilots had struck... so you didn't understand the gravity of that situation?
You didn't understand that people would be upset with you?

What do you mean that you didn't understand the implications? I am trying to understand your state of mind.

According to another forum, he was concerned about the implications of being fired for leaving the plane in MYSM and thus not being able to pay the bills.

Not the best thing to say to win over minds....

Especially with 400+ Spirit pilots that have no income right now.

he understood THOSE implications, what were the implications he didn't understand?
that's what I'm curious about.

And no pay for our May overtime and time worked to June 11th as they decided not to run payroll; and no health benefits as they cut us off on Saturday; and took employee contributions out of out 401(k).

That's not realy fair. It's better to be a Spirit pilot on strike than a fired pilot in this economy. If the story is true then you have my sympathies. It's kind of an unbelivable story though.
Donate the earnings of that flight like someone suggested and join the picket line. Then I'd call it even.

I think that's the scab mentality. Look out for ones self.

Before you even had a phone call to do said flight you should have had an idea of what is going on in the industry. The billboards around the airport, the media outlets, the fact that pilots talk about contracts every day, and every forum has been talking about this for 30+ days since the release. If you were living under a rock you STILL should have looked at the paperwork- it's that whole "preflight" thing EVEN WHEN LATE. It's being a professional, it may not be professional on my part to reply- but you are on the list unless you can sway the graces of the spirit MEC to "pardon" your actions.

Well according to his story, if the company really did what he said, I would want to work for someone else anyways.

it is better to be a pilot who was fired because would not fly a leg once learning it was struck work than one who went ahead and flew it, and now will be labeled a SCAB for the rest of his career...he is working for a company who showed little regard for him and lied to him and he will never work for a union carrier.

If he had got off of that plane and said oh man I came back to work too early, my knee just tweaked on the walk around...

Even if he had just told the captain that he knows that the flight was a SCAB flight now, and that he couldn't in good conscious continue.

Which implications were you concerned with?

As you can read in my story, I have never dealt with unions (Falcon Air is non-union). I didn't know what the right thing to do was. I thought by going back, and calling Falcon scheduling that I was not available for flights anymore I would show my intent. My thinking was: to have walked of the plane in MYSM I would have screwed myself royally. I am pretty sure that I would have been fired had I done that. I thought that there would be some kind of consideration for that by the pilot community since I was going to stop flying after return, but apparently not...

So you did not know that flying the leg back was wrong?

I am sure you knew that you would have to answer some serious questions including being fired, but honestly, you had a feeling something was wrong before you took off according to your story.

From what I see here, you hoped that people would understand why you flew that leg knowing that you were crossing the picket line. Because your job was at risk...
