My "Jerry Maguire" post

Awesome news and congratulations. I have a feeling that you will wear that fourth stripe really well. From what you have done for the members on this site, it is easy to guess what type of an example you will be to your crew.

Congrats @Derg! Although on an entirely different level, that is probably my hugest reason for wanting to move on from flight instructing to a new job. It's that I feel I'm too comfortable with my job, and I don't want to stagnate in my aviation career. Ambition and passion seems to empower people and make the best people to work with.

Although judging by all the extra things you do like running JC, indicate to me that even if you stayed as an FO on the 330 or 76, you still have an ambitious drive to not be complacent. However, enjoy the new job, and it'll be interesting to see you share some things in the "you're the captain" section now that you're on the other side of the radio stack.

@Derg congratulations on the upgrade!

About the FA comments on moving to the 747 FO position, she was probably thinking doesn't this guy want a 4-Engines-4-Longhaul sticker on his flight bag? ;)

Don't tell me, tell him that!

Congrats Doug! Excellent post as it brought about similar feelings in anticipating the challenges ahead & not being to comfy. Time to go update the ol' app again.

Enjoy the 'New Captain Curse' arrggh!

Who still carries flight bags? We have EF er, umm, shipsets. Yeah, shipsets. For now. Or 4-6 months.

You know what's hilarious is that I've had the weirdest stuff in the last couple years when the captain failed to lead. I've got an "Above and Beyond" letter sitting on the scanner where we literally (yes, @SeatClutcher, "literally") had a sick passenger come onboard, drop trow and leave a steaming coil in first class and the captain said, "I retire next month, go….go do something." and I did.

I think after a culmination of being an FO except for a big whopping two weeks since my airline career started back in 1996, I've seen plenty of people doing (a) nothing or (b) something, but completely poorly.

I'm looking forward to the challenge.

IMO, poorly is the best way to do nothing. ;) Excellent decision. Congrats!

So, I'm in my comfort zone now. Anybody with a recommendation on where to go? Silver? Commutaire? Where to go from here? Any hiring in ATL? I really am looking for a change...it is a great job, but I can only do so many St Petersburg turns...

In all seriousness, I am looking for a way out of this comfort zone. 5000 mile commutes are killing me. I can actually feel it happening...

I do. We have a full EFB (only paper is QRH and Normal Checklist - also available electronically in the EFB). But I carry a company-provided laptop/tote bag that has my laptop and associated wire/adapter, ANR headset, flashlight, Pilot Work Rules binder, my own binder with printouts for limitations/memory items/profiles/callouts, a Uniform booklet, FAR 117 booklet, Passport, pens, briefing card, Flying magazine, mini first-aid kit/medicines, and last but not least a baggie of company pilot wings for the kids when they stop up front.

There is a large Southeastern Global airline which is hiring.
