My flight with the Berlin Candy Bomber.

In 1998 I ordered a book I saw advertised in one of my flying magazines. It was entitled " The Berlin Candy Bomber" by Gail S. Halvorson. I ordered the autographed copy and when it came I ripped the brown wrapping paper off and started looking at the book. My wife asked me if I had seen the writing on the brown paper. When I looked it said " I sure would like a ride in that 182 someday, signed GSH." Well you see I had put a card of mine in the envelope when I ordered my book, and explained it was an old card and that I didn't fly the plane pictured on the card but I now flew a Cessna 182. So I contacted Mr. Halvorson and we corresponded back and forth. In 1999 he came to Vale, Or. and gave a great talk about his Berlin Airlift experiences. If you don't know who he is, he was a pilot in the airlift that dropped candy, tied to handkerchief parachutes, to the little German children. He became know as the Berlin Candy Bomber. I got to take he and his wife for a airplane ride into the backcountry of Idaho. We flew into Sulphur Creek for breakfast, and then on to Chamberlain Basin for the rest of the day. Some members of the Ontario, OR. EAA flew along and cooked a great meal for all of us that evening. I have a couple videos here if someone would like to help me post them. I can't seem to figure that out. They are on the last page of my videos here www.youtube.com/skybobb Search Candy Bomber Sulphur creek landing, and Candy Bomber a landing at Chamberlain Basin. I may have this in the wrong posting place.
