My First Air Return...

This brings up another good point....always tap the mask to make sure that mic is working during the preflight. Supposedly the sound of oxygen flow during the mask test ensures that the mic is working, but you'll still hear the flow even if the mic is busted. I found this out the hard way a few weeks back....

I thought that's why we turn the mask mic on and speaker off and listen to the speaker when checking the O2...no?

Jim, sounds like you guys did a great job handling things.

Yeah, good point sultus. I guess i may have inadvertantly left the speaker on when I tested the mask I had to wear with the busted mic.

Do you think leaving the speaker selected to "on" during the O2 test would cause you to hear O2 flow even if the mic was busted? I guess it might if the mic from your headset was resting close to the mask.

You should hear it either way (if the speaker is off or on) when switched to mask. You turn the speaker off b/c you're testing to make sure the speaker automatically comes on when you're using the mask. At least that was my understanding.
