My binding selection for Logbook Pro printing, need opinions

Alright, I just decided to go digital with my logbook now that we're in the year 2010. I am spending the next several days entering 2,800 hours or so into Logbook Pro. I have narrowed it down to two 8.5x11 landscape-format Screwpost Portfolios by Pina Zangaro. At around $47, they're a great alternative to the extremely overpriced $143 (gasp!!!) Cirrus Elite binders that are sold on the Logbook Pro website. They bind paper with expandable screwposts and will hold approximately 200 pages with the $5 expansion kits.

Please vote on which binding setup looks the best. I like #1 because it should be more durable, looks very modern and unique. I like #2 because it looks more traditional but doesn't look as durable.

1) Pina Zangaro Vista (acrylic front and back with metal hinge)

2) Pina Zangaro Rossano (book binding material covered in fake leather that looks pretty nice in person)

I like the metal one - more modern

I also went to logbook pro and don't want to spend the money on one of their binders so I'm interested in these.

Can you get them engraved at all?

Yes you can get them laser engraved at any local or mail-order company that does custom engraving. The Rossano model is leatherette and obviously that probably wouldn't work with laser engraving. Here is the "Vista" model engraved:

Both look very nice, but I prefer the fake leather one. You could probably get your name embossed on it at any luggage shop.

How would you punch the holes in your printed sheets?

And to add, how are you printing them? And what size paper? What setting?

I have my stuff in logbook pro now but need to figure out how to print.

To print out your logbook go to Reports, Flight Log and select Split Reports. I used the "full size binder" option. Make sure you have the "combined" tab selected (as opposed to the left or right tab) and then click on EXPORT to save it as a PDF. I then took the PDF file to Kinkos and had them print it two sided on a heavy paper. I then had them spiral bound it with a hard plastic backing and a clear plastic cover.

It's not as nice as a leather bound book, but a whole heck of a lot cheaper.

A standard 3-hole punch. Any 3-hole puncher is adjustable to accommodate the 8.5 size (instead of the standard 11).

Just the usual way you print with Logbook Pro with the Split Page setup. I was considering using the light light green color but I think I will stick with white.

I also adjusted the margins to 0.5" to put more lines of entries per page.

Familiar with that; what size binder are you getting? I looked on their site it seems they have many different sizes.

I'm looking for something other than the spiral bound option that Bobdduck mentioned, something more permanent.

Thanks, I did see that, however I'm looking for something more presentable and "keepable" (if that makes sense).

I'm getting the 8.5x11 landscape format binder (the binding side is on the 8.5" part of the paper so it looks like a traditional logbook).

Hey I found this binder online and it mimics the jeppesen logbook. Its real leather and less than $100. They said they are coming out with a 8.5x11 soo.

Have you looked into Kinko options? It would probably be much less expensive and they probably have something similar in look.
