Hi everyone. I just got back from my 3rd class medical today. On the limitations section of the certificate it says, "must wear corrective lenses". During the eye test I was having trouble on the uncorrected portion of the test. When I had my glasses on I did fine. Also with the color-dot test, I did fine with glasses on/off. My question is, how worried should I be? Will this hinder any future flying plans? I know when Im up flying I have some trouble seeing things far away. But looking at the panel and things up close are great. Maybe Im worrying too much. Thanks for the replies!

You're fine. Don't worry. My First Class medical says the same thing. Just wear corrective lenses... maybe go to the doctor and get your perscription updated.

That's what I did.

I've got the "corrective lenses" stamp, too. Might have been a problem for us twenty years ago (or ten if we were trying for Delta), but seeing how MOST of the US has lost their vision, we're okay. Otherwise there really WOULD be a pilot shortage.

Look, I can't even see the "E" at the top of the chart if I try to read anything uncorrected. I hold a 1st class medical with no problems.

from what ive seen glasses are fine as long as you can meet the requirments with corrected lenses, however when they tested me they did both with and with out corrective lenses.

Is this acceptable for FedEx? I think it said that applicant should have no limitation.

On top of that, a lot of airlines in Asia require 20/30 maximum at the time of applying for employment +++ amptitude test. I have the deram for flying THAI but this put me out real good. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/insane.gif

It doesn't matter how you get to 20/20, just that you get there.

You can do it with glasses, contacts, or you can get them zapped. As long as it's 20/20 after you're done, it's all good.
