I agree with Pat. Very unlikely they'll physically stop you from taking off (unless you're somewhere in the People's Republik of Kalifornia or the greater Chicago area), though I'd imagine the county/city that instituted the ordinance might try to hit you with a fine. Whether that would hold up in court, I don't know.

Just when we get a good discussion going, some guy has to come along and say something like a responsible mature adult and ruin it for everybody.
 
I'd go grab a 185, fly by with the prop at high RPM, flaps down and enough power to make a ton of noise, but never land. I hate the NY stupid rules.
 
One city impounded one of Mesa's 1900s when it landed for unpaid landing fees. It was pretty hilarious. The crew was like 'awesome.'

Sure, I'll buy that if you dock. What if I land, taxi around the river, drop somebody out of the plane in a dingy and take back off?

I'm not saying they can't try to make rules about what can/can't use their facility. I'm just wondering if it would actually hold up in court when they try to fine you.

So that begs the next question: Is it worth it to pay a few thousand in legal fees to fight a fine of a few hundred bucks?

Its mostly an academic argument on my part. At this point in my life, no it wouldn't be. I'd imagine if I was some old guy, retired, with so much money that I didn't know what to do with, then yeah, it might be worth it.
 
I'll look, but it was an Air Midwest EAS city. And I think they managed to keep it out of the papers with prompt payment... The captain was going through recurrent with me and that's how I heard the story.

That is hilarious that is one of the MU-2's that Mike laver has at Air First in Aiken and having been based there for 4yrs it is THE most effecient way to turn jet fuel into noise!!! That being said they are a blast to fly!

While you're at it why not add a string of them little firecrackers to the list of materials for this trip. Set a few hundred of them off while you're doing your low pass. :D

HAAaaaa! I was thinking(I know look out), put some floats on the Chieftain I fly, and go in there. We have 4 blades, and the proprs are q-tips. So would that be a violation. I mean, it is quiter. I think it's just an angry/kneejerk reaction from the manager of the facility. I can bet ya that it's not written into any lawbook out there that you must have a threebalde prop.


BTW, I'd get a string of something like m-100's to throw out the window. Them "fire crackers" woulden't be enough noise!

What about making a like a quasi-Hyrda pod, using model rockets. I could just see it now, launching about 30 model rockets out of a plane, while also dropping M80's. Would be quite a show.
