Musical Chairs?(It's about to stop at SKYW)

How much does 2 busses and a couple of contract drivers cost? Come on. There is no way that jets can come close to being economic on the inter-California flying. UA then can use the freed up gate space for expansion with jets.

Then again that makes perfect logical sense. The problem is that the airlines are required to determine what makes perfect logical sense....and do the exact opposite of that.

American doesn't seem to have a problem running busses.

it costs United 2 million per year for this. No Joke! The bus drivers are unionized and make over $65K/yr. I swear on it. Even they make more than regional captains! Thinks about that!

SkyWest, Inc. Announces Plans to Acquire 22 Additional Regional Jet Aircraft

http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/071012/laf049.html?.v=91

It basically ended up being a 1 aircraft loss. Which is better than what I was expecting. The remaining brasilias will be going to markets that cannot support the RJ.

LAX-SNA
LAX-CRQ/CLD
LAX-OXR
LAX-SBA
LAX-SGU(runway can support the CRJ200 (part 121 regs/ part 91 no problem)
LAX-ONT
SFO-MRY
SFO-SMF

I heard these brasilia routes are going to the RJ:

LAX-MRY
LAX-SAN
LAX-MOD
LAX-YUM
LAX-SBP
SFO-BFL
SFO-FAT
SFO-RDM
SFO-MFR
SFO-CIC
SFO-ACV

LAX-PSP will remain both RJ and 120 route because PSP is maintenance base.

Hear anything about LAX-SMX? Hopefully, with the upgraded a/c comes an upgrade in pay category.

Here's a question...what happens to bases that have only EMB service once all the a/c are retired? What happens to the crews...are they forced to upgrade to the CRJ?

Well, that depends on how the displacement is written in the contra....oh wait.....

According to the news release and Chip's clarification on it, we aren't losing any aircraft. 18 bro's are permanently leaving and being replaced by 18 -700s. 5 bro's are being flown "at risk." 4 -200s are being swapped for either 4 -900s or 4 E175s.

While there is no net loss in airframes, not all of these aircraft are going to be flying for UAL, and those that are might not all be headed for CA. I'd assume this means a reduction in CA bases, and maybe the closure of small EMB only bases.

If there are any base closures, I doubt they'd be announced before nov 7th.

Yeah, they'll announce (or maybe hint at) the opening of a new, big domicile, just before the vote closes to disuade any last-minute would-be voters, then the moment the vote closes (assuming ALPA is not voted in) they'll announce the LAX base along with the closure of all the small socal bases.

All you junior jet-captains, get ready to get pushed back by that pissed-off 17-year brasilia guy who now has to commute from SBA to LAX. This could get ugly.

Rhetorical: What happens to the guys stuck in the Bro? Those who tried to transition but didn't make it and are required to stay in the Bro till they quit, retire or ...

Things that make you go, huh.

Yeah off the bro .... 1/3 of the fleet is going away. Ifthat's not writing on the wall ... :)

Mark my words, as soon as November 7th comes and goes...management will announce the closure of some small California bases.

Part of the reason why I left the bro was back in November a senior guy told me when they got rid of the metro, they wouldnt let people transition to the brasliia, even though their seniority could hold it. They needed pilots to fly the remaining trips on the metro, and because it was getting phased out, the trips were inefficient. He said, get out now, while the bro is still here. Cuz once they start getting rid of it, who ever is on the bro, stays on the bro till they say you can leave.

Sooo......I left the bro.
