Muscle Twiching?

Allright, now this may be a silly question but it has been bothering me a bit for the past week and a half. Usually while sitting down for long periods of time, my muscles on my arms and legs start to twitch. (not all the time and out of control, but just random twiches from time to time). So is this normal or what?

I would first think about electrolyte imbalance or dehydration. Low calcium, sodium or potassium can cause this. Excess muscle work without a gradual increase in exercise tolerance can also be a cause.

Well I drink lots of water throughout the day and I haven't exercised in the past few days so maybe its indeed a shortage of the said above. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't anything that could lead to something worse.

Thanks for the help!:)

Doc, I also have some students who have muscle twitching. It seems when they are nervous, their muscles twitching more obvious. ANy sugeestions?

Muscle twitch with nervousness is normal. Just watch your dog as you get ready to throw a ball --->they twitch as they get ready to charge the ball. It is all a normal "self-defense" mechanism.

Not that I know of. The only medical problem that is well spread throughout my family is diabetes.

Then you need to talk to him:
