Multi Time-Building Packages...

OK, let me throw this disclaimer out there : This isn't flame bait!!!! Honest question from a JC regular....

Would a 100-hour multi-engine time building package be considered PFT and be looked down upon?

Just reading another thread made me wonder that...

I wouldn't say so. You're not taking a position away from another, more qualified pilot (a la Gulfstream, etc.). You're basically renting the airplane for 100 hrs. Big difference, IMO.

Good point....with insurance companies being such beenie-weenies, that seems to be the only way alot of people could get multi time (someone let me know if I'm missing the mark....like I said, I'm asking because I don't know). Hell, there are FBOs now that won't let their CFI's instruct with less than 50 or 100 hours of multi!!!

I wouldnt say it would be looked at as PFT. It can actually be quite valuable going out with an MEI and having him give you pointers, also if your an MEI you can give him pointers. That way your logging it as dual given/recieved and you dont have to use the safety pilot way. This is how I obtained part of my multi time to get my job at mesa airlines...

How would that be any different then renting a 172 for 200 hours to get the times for a Comm?

Gee, I hope not. I'm about to do that this fall.

How would that be PFT? You're buying a block of multi time, so it's just renting the airplane. I don't see a problem with it.

I personally think that it would look better than 100 hours of ME safety pilot time. If you're sitting there next to someone who is flying under the hood it just doesn't seem as valuable to me.

I've learned lots flying with other CFI's. Also, if something goes wrong wouldn't you rather have someone with a little more experience next to you?
