Just returned from a five-day trip with Terry Peterson (Terry on JetCareers) out of KDPA. Piper Twin Comanche (PA30), decently equipped with a Garmin 430 and HSI, well maintained. In five days, we logged 44.2 hours. Terry was well organized and paired me with a partner from Wichita. Total cost (my share) was about $100/hour. Our flying destinations were determined by my partner and me as "warm, cheap fuel, cheap hotels." Kansas, Texas, Arizona, Vegas, New Orleans were reached during the 44.2 hours we flew. Trips begin and end at KDPA. Terry arranged for me to be picked up and dropped at ORD, no charge.
Terry works by renting the airplane dry to the pilots. Pilots pick up fuel, oil, preheats, ramp fees, lodging and food, including lodging/fuel for Terry. He's pretty easy to get along with, but doesn't hesitate to be clear about safety or expectations.
Be prepared when you arrive with your own hood, headset, paper/pen, flashlight (or two), charts/plates (hopefully Foreflight digital), kneepad. Having a stash of snacks helps, as the legs are long and not always into airports with food available. Bring a water and pee bottle as well. Terry provided a power adapter that provided USB 2.1 and 1.0amp outlets, which was nice for inflight charging of cell phones and iPads.
Pre-arrival, Terry will forward digital manuals and checklists, which should be studied in advance of launch. Be prepared and flexible and you'll enjoy the adventure.
