multi engine endorsement

How many hours are required to acuire a multi engine endorsement?

Lets say, once you have passed your endorsement on a dutchess, can you fly anyother twin, or do you need another rating/endorement to fly it?

Its not an endorsement, its a rating, with a checkride required... once you have it though, you are legal to fly PIC on all multi engine planes under 12500 lbs, assuming the proper endorsements (HP and Tailwheel perhaps).

The bare minimum would be 3 hours in preparation for the checkride, plus about 1.5 for the checkride. Private multi usually takes 10-15 hours

If you've got your PMEL in a duchess, and your high performance in a C-182, you're leagle to hop into a Kingair BE-200 and fire it up!

I said leagle, not safe.

At least here in the US

I just finished my PMEL, and it was 15 hours in the plane. However, that was at ERAU, so I am sure it can be done with many less hours. I personally felt extremely comfortable in the aircraft after that time, so I say take it at a pace that gives you not only comfort but also confidence for your checkride and subsequent flights.
Most places I have tried to rent a multi at after my checkride want 10 hours in type, and 15 hours PIC. Stupid insurance, but I also understand that due to a pockmarked history with twins and low time pilots.

Don't forget the high altitude signoff [61.31(i)].

I'm sorry to hijack your thread Aussie, but I have some multi questions too.

Could you actually get your private multi before any single engine ratings, or do you need single before you can get multi? Could you do your multi as you are doing your single?

Sorry again Aussie!

Sure could! However, due to the cost, and complexity of the aircraft I would strongly advise against this (unless of course yo are doing it in your own multi aircraft!).

Hey Aussie - I'm assuming you're flying in Australia. I recently finished my multi in a Seminole. It a bit different than back home in North America - assuming the aircraft has retractable gear you get a rectractable undercarriage endorsement and then an endorsement on the aircraft you trained on. If you want to fly other multi's you need an endorsement. I'm only flying on a PPL (hopefully not much longer) - may be different if you have your CPL

Yeah thats kool Wannabepilot!
We can all benefit from more questions.

Thanks Joycer_01
that makes it a hell of a lot clearer. So then to fly a different multi, id need to be endorsed.
All good!
