Moving Kid to Flip Phone from iPhone

Starting here before I ask the interwebs at large, but I need to move my kid from his iPhone to a flip phone. Having a smartphone is destroying his potential, and all of our efforts to regulate it are failing.

He's actually not opposed to having a flip phone where he can text and call, so what would that involve? We're with Verizon right now. Do I just buy a flip phone and there's some way to connect it to his number or is it more complicated than that?

Thought maybe a few folks here might know, but no worries if not.

not sure if there are flip phones these days using eSims, but if they still use physical sim cards i imagine it will require a visit to a verizon retailer to port the same number from an esim to a physical sim

My kids' (shared) phone is a flip phone, they won't have an iPhone in this house until they can buy it themselves. I have verizon, adding a flip phone was really easy, I just went down to the verizon store in the mall, said, "hey, I want a flip phone" bought one in cash, and then had them figure out how to convert the plan around and stuff. Pretty straight forward.

As Patrick said it was really easy to get a flip phone. The most onerous part was waiting for the Verizon folks to figure out how to set it up as they had never sold one before. We tried the Apple Watch with one of our kids but even that got to be too much… I don’t think we will ever have anything but flip phones for our kids.
