How about the 1926 Schneider Cup winning Curtiss R3C-2 flown by Jimmy Doolittle!
PS - Jimmy Doolittle flew the Laird Super Solution pictured earlier, as well as the Gee Bee Ctab posted, as well as this machine. He won the Bendix Trophy (transcon - Burbank to Newark), the Thompson Trophy (closed course pylons) and the Schneider (closed course pylons with floats)...then he flew B-25's off a carrier and bombed Japan. Has ANYONE ever been as bad ass as Jimmy Doolittle? My bet is no - Yeager, Crossfield, and even Bob Hoover couldn't hold his jock.
