More than 150 killed in Nigeria plane crash

RIP. And into a dense neighborhood, too. Sad day.

Be interesting when they start to suss out the cause, with so many different factors potentially in play.

Sadly it won't ever get as much press as it should since it was in Africa, but how horrible. :( Its a big city, and I can only imagine the thoughts going through someones head as they watch an airliner plow into their building.

It's front page news on CNN and MSNBC right now

This is a bad deal; Lagos is literally packed with people. I bet the end number of deaths will be crazy.

I have a couple of friends that fly for them. I haven't heard from either one.

Also, a JCr flies out of Lagos but I'm not sure which airline.

DH says the Capt. was a former Spirit pilot, <Pete> Waxton. Very sad.

The aircraft involved was a former Alaska Airlines MD-83 that was sold to Dana Air back in 2009. Tail number was N944AS when it was with Alaska.

Terrible to hear, I talked to the DJ CP and DO twice at job fairs a few years back... but was pretty low time and I wasn't all that motivated to pursue going over there. They were both very professional and friendly and stressed very heavily that just because it was Nigeria that didn't mean that things would be run (paraphrasing here) fly by night under the radar with no standards or discipiline... from what I've read this seems to be mechanical problems.

I also wonder if they'll really be able to figure out what happened considering the way everyone is clawing through the wreckage (though part of that is just to look for survivors...

Either way RIP...

I just saw a DANA MD-8X over at Commercial Jet in MIA a week or so ago. Had never heard of them until that, and now this. Pretty sad.
