SEAN,

I suggest you buy the Aviation Weather Services book put out by the FAA. It has everything you need to know about charts, METARS, TAF's, FA, SD, etc. It is a very helpful book.

WHERE CAN I PICK IT UP?

Here

I would suggest getting the combo pack (cheaper) which includes the Aviation Weather Book and the Services one as well. Both have very good information.

Or, alternatively, just the FAA's NOTAM and Weather Contractions Translator pamphlet and/or Pilots Quick Reference Guide to the METAR/TAF Reports booklet. Small enough to keep in your flight bag, where they'll get used.
