What's that gray wedge in the profile view of that approach? Haven't seen that before.

Since it starts at the VDP, I would suspect that it probably just depicts the visual descent path to the runway. There's also a smaller one on the first plate you linked to (which also has a VDP).

I've flown the ILS at BPT which has BAXTR as the FAF in honor of Gordon Baxter who wrote for Flying.

Its not really humorous, but I'm always relieved when I finally get back to where I hear controllers saying "Cross Gilmore at.....".

Thats always a good sign I'm getting back home!
