More BB Codes

It'd be really great if you defined some BB codes for , , because that would facilitate discussing important topics. And <table>, <tr> and <td> would be really nice, too.

have you tried them to make sure they don't yet work as a BB code? BB codes typically have [ ] tags...html uses < >

we can't implement HTML codes and <table> <tr> <th> etc are html

i'd say if you need to create a table, create it on word and upload as a jpg or something

The problem with enabling tables for users is that it takes only one fubar'd tag to blow up the whole page.

HTML:
<table><tr><td>CELL 1</td></tr></table>

The HTML tag won't render with the newer version of BB code. The old version it would. Shame.

I'm in the process of tweaking a new upgrade for the forum so any improvements are on hold until the new software is installed.

I'm sure the intent of the html tag is for the contents NOT to render.

Actually, that was the historic use of the tag. The first generation forums, that were more than BBS systems would display all posts as raw text. In order to force stuff like bolding or underlining you'd have to use the HTML tag.

Hmmm, I've never seen that usage. In html and other formatting software that I'm familiar with, that sort of tag is used to turn off the formatting algorithms until you turn them on again.

Perhaps I haven't run into it because I skipped the early versions of web forums because they sucked so bad, and mainly dwelt in the newsgroups.

(And web forum software still sucks compared to offline readers. And I didn't have to put up with those blasted animated gifs.)

The early version of what is now the
HTML:
tag was the [code] tag.... which I think still works in many forum environments.

I think now that HTML is so much more complex (and non standard) it makes sense for it not to render within a post.
