Maybe I'm not familiar with the F-16 friendly fire incident you meant here, but the one I'm aware of was circa 2002. Former USMC guy (IIRC) gone guard. Lit up friendlies in AFG, and the go pills were part of the evidence introduced.

You’re right, that was Afghanistan, Guard guy opened up on Canadians. My brain inserted that case as it seemed to fit.

My memory is failing me, maybe there wasn’t a milestone event that led to the prohibition after Desert Storm but it was a full stop. There was the Apache incident and the A-10 vs Brits incident, I don’t recall go-pills being part of those conversations.

I'm sure it said in the fine print and the flight doc probably also told us the name, but I really wasn't paying much attention. I know he said it wasn't the real crazy old school stuff. MikeD prob flew with that kind. To be fair, we did a test on a no fly day on the way out there, where anyone who hadn't been issued them before was supposed to take a controlled dose in a non-flying environment to make sure there weren't any adverse effects. It typically was only kosher to take them on a 6+ hr mission, and I really only ever took them on really boring sorties, towards the end when about to head back to the boat for a night trap. Most of the time, I found a thermos of coffee did the trick. I'm also not really a fan of meds, prescription or otherwise, in my life. The "no go" pills were a little more useful, though I believe they could be somewhat habit forming.
