Models

Something I have wanted to do for a long time is have a collection of custom airplane models of every important airplane in my life. (First solo, First real job, any airplane that I have spent a significant amount of time with).

Does anyone know of a good trustworthy company that does quality work they would be willing to recommend?

Also, what scale would you recommend. I would like to keep all the planes on one scale if at all possible. I've flown as small as a C152 to the largest so far a King Air C90. However, I have no idea what the future holds. Maybe one day I will fly the A380. So what would be a good scale that wouldn't make the Cessna too tiny or the wide body too large?

Thanks!

For an ambiguous thread title, this is not the kind of "model" I was hoping for.

I dunno.....most of the desktop models (I assume that is what you are looking for here) I have seen have generally been about the same size, though not always the same scale. Should be a number of options advertised in most aviation magazines and/or online.

I've had two models made from a company in the Philippines.

First is this one: VGL model.jpg

Then this one: 100_1224.JPG

The company is called Model Buffs.

There was a thread on Beechtalk.com about this over the summer; I think the ones that had success were in S. Korea (? could be the same modelbuffs guy in the Philippines, though). There were some people who had good outcomes, some not so good. Head over there & search for that thread.

I've made a few model from kits (P-51, Corsair, etc) and 1:72 seems to be a pretty good scale. An a380 would be huge but it would at least fit in your house....

Here are a couple of the places I've ordered desktop models from through the years:

https://www.asianimportsinc.com
http://squadrontoys.com/

Personally, the model I purchased from "e-snacko" is probably my favorite of all of them -- the most accurate shape and most attractive overall package of desktop base, etc -- but it was also the most expensive. Naturally these places tend to cater more to military types, but they all seem to do civilian aircraft in some form.

Prices I've paid vary from sub-$100 to over $200.

They all come in basically the same size, which does not translate to a constant scale. One of my T-38 models is actually larger than both of my F-15E models.

If you want photos of the models to see what each of the manufacturers looks like, lemme know.
