Mississippi to sell Governor's Jet

Off the highways? So county maintained roads then? Not federal or state maintained?
I'd even be so bold as to include the main highways. It doesn't matter who maintains the road, it would be easy for a blind man to know they had just crossed into Mississippi.

Actually it does. But of course that means living in the state and seeing the long term effects of what highways get what funding.

All the state roads should be immaculate considering how much they charge in taxes and fees for car tags. Isn't that what that money is supposed to go to? Roads were INFINITELY better in FL, and I paid a whopping $25 a year for my tag there. Moved here, and my 2000 Altima car tag was 10 times that in 2004. It's gone down since then, but then again, so has the value of my car. If I were to go out and buy a new car, my tag would be in the realm of $400-500. Some of the major roads (like US78) are in good shape. Some of the other state highways, not so much. Did they ever finish up 82 between Grenada and Starkville? That thing was under construction the whole time I was in college and past that.

The only reason they want to get rid of it is to help fund the car tag registration cost reduction. If paying a few more dollars each year on my tag (already pay a special plate fee) is what it takes to keep that airplane for the Governor, then I am perfectly okay with it.

What are you paying for tags now??? I remember paying 4% of the value of the vehicle each year back in 1990-96. I hated a $1200 tag for a vehicle, and was just the wife's.

Also on the jet, could it get into RNV (DSU's field) and back out to the other end of the state? I know that was a problem for our travels when I was down there. We would have to hop to Greenville for fuel before heading to ORD.

Why are car tags so expensive down there? Here in Ohio its flat fee for every car. I think I pay like 40 bucks a year.

It's gone down since then. Running the "estimate my car tag" applet on a county website, a $20,000 car would be around $600.
