Military Discount

Frog...I was in AFROTC my first two years of college. I of course wanted a flying slot but they (the Air Force couldn't guarantee anything). As you well know the pecking order for slots is:

1.) Air Force Academy grads

2.) AFROTC

3.) OTC

They wanted me to go to "camp cupcake" as you call it and on the other end I'd come out "sign sealed delivered" with property of the United states on my ass.

So Brian (BCTavtr) makes a good point in that you could be flying a desk if you're not selected for a "slot". I of course not wanting to be locked into a desk with 8-10 yr. commitments I opted out of going to "summer camp".

So just a warning. But I'm more then sure you're already aware of the possible outcome!

Thanks for the concern, Mike and Matt.

I know very well what I am getting in to. And matt, the commitment is 10 years only for pilots. (that starts ticking down once you wing)

For non rated it's 4 years, but some guys are getting booted early because of force shaping.

FF is on top of things and knows what he's doing.

Mate, take it from me. Field training is to be taken seriously; but you must understand it's a game. They are going to stress the • out of you, you will make mistakes, you will get yelled at, you will get punished for other's screw ups. Just suck it up and in the back of you mind remember you are doing this to get a comission and a pilot slot. It's all part of the haze my friend. UPT is no different. Study, prepare, perform. Help your mates. Carry the slow ones. A little sacrifice here or there. Stay with your flight mates. Finish a run, keep running with the slow guys. Study with the dumb ones, share the weight. They can't just put you knuckleheads on a battle field to test your reaciton to stresss. This is the traditional simulation. Treat it as such, but by all means keep your cool and help your flight mates.

It's not necessarily camp cup cake, you'll get out of it what you put into it. Just don't let the power trip CTA's get you down. This is all so you can get to UPT remember.

We'll send you through Loyd's training camp prep course. Upon competion, you'll tell the Hair Force "No thank you" and join the Corps.:yar:

no comment on other forces bootcamps....

living in southern california you are lucky to even get served at a restaurant let alone get a discount. it is about 30% military down here and you know the old saying one bad apple ruins the bunch...its been ruined for a long time out here :(

Miltary discounts in San Diego...try hardly any! I do remember back after Desert Storm, you could get miltary discounts at pretty much any store at El Camino Real and North County Fair as well as any mall in San Diego. That went away after a year or so. Now is't more of how to get al you money instead of giving you a break. Now it's payday and car title loans or used cars. Sad....very sad.:(

I went to "Hotel Tyndall" near Panama City FL for my camp almost 18 years ago. Best 4 weeks if no sleep I can remember......
