MikeD, if you could fly any active military aircraft which aircraft would it be?

It must be awesome to fly the B-1. That thing is huge.

The title of the post says he flies the F-117. nothing nowhere near close as a B-1. Even if I typed it it would not even look anything like B-1............dont worry I was there too. still am at times but youll surpass that.

Re: MikeD - how bad ass do you feel when you\'re flying in the F-1

WOW, I had no idea MikeD flew the F-117.

Someone posted before me asking if MikeD could go back to the A-10, if he would. I then posted asking if he could fly any military aircraft, which one he would fly. Just because he flies the F-117 doesn't mean he wouldn't want to fly something else. And that is what I meant with my question.

The B-1 statement was about me. Not about MikeD. No [censored] a F-117 doesn't look anything like a B-1.

<whisper>Brian, I knew that's what you meant the first time I read it.</w>

Re: MikeD - how bad ass do you feel when you\'re flying in the F-1

Interesting sidenote, I flew with a captain who flew the A-10 and transitioned to the F-15. According to him, he spend his first year screaming "holy sh*t! Aeeeeigh!"

Brian, fair question, I'll give you a fair answer.

Since you narrowed it to "active" military aircraft, that crimps the list a bit.

If I could get an exchange assignment..........that is being sent as instructor or military advisor to a foreign military (something I've already put the paperwork in for).........then I'd like to fly OV-10s with Colombia AF or A-37s with Guatamala AF, Dominican Republic AF, or Peru AF. I'm also in the que for an F-4 assignment, potentially, following my F-117 gig if the exchange assignments don't pan out due to assignment timing.

So we'll see.

My dad's friend spent his entire career trying to get an exchange to Bolivia, and he finally succeeded in getting to be air attache to the Embassy in Bolivia.

So, my dad asked him, "Why Bolivia?"

Because at the time (late 70s), the Bolivian AF was the last air force still flying P-51s in active service!

My dad kept wishing he could have done that also.

Yeah, but your dad got to fly FB-111s for SAC.......cool gig too.

Especially since most punk pilots in the AF have only seen a Vark in the museum.....damn young kids.

Re: MikeD - how bad ass do you feel when you\'re flying in the F-1

I heard exchange tours were not to hard to get. But it seems the whole fighter community is short staffed. Mike do you plan on doing 20 years?

Re: MikeD - how bad ass do you feel when you\'re flying in the F-1

Mike, what about an RAF/Luftwaffe/Italian AF exchange flying Gr.1/Gr.4's (Tornados)? I had a friend that did an Italian Tornado tour and had a blast! Would that be a possibility?

He did come back from Italy with a wife though....

And you get to learn a new language.

Re: MikeD - how bad ass do you feel when you\'re flying in the F-1

That's awesome. So I could do an exchange program and go fly for the Brazilian AF. Not like they have anything cool to fly though. Just some Mirage 2000s, F-5s, AMXs...
