MikeD - how bad a** do you feel when you\'re flying in the F-117?

When you're flying in it, you've gotta feel like the biggest bad*** in the world.

The minute he starts thinking and worrying about that, he will be distracted from his mission at hand.

I'd liken it to the guy in the <insert favorite sports care here> that pulls up next the young punk <insert favorite young kid car here>. There is absolutely no reason to prove anything to the young kid. The driver of the sports car, knows he would blow the doors off of him. There is no need to feel bada$$.

The Stinkbug ain't exactly "badass" as modern fighters go: it's subsonic, has no gun, no air-to-air radar, and what's its g limit Mike? +6? Might as well be the B-117.

I miss the gun. Radars are for sissies. I love how much guys that came from F-15/16s brief going to the tanker at night in a 117. They treat it almost like it's an emergency procedure....having to go with *gasp* no radar! Especially if there's bad weather While us A-10 guys look at each other like "no radar? yeah...so?"

Interesting thing. When we graduated out of the training course, the commander there made mention there of a factoid. He'd apparently been researching the number of brain surgeons that exist in the USA. Came out to something like 1400 or so. And only 540 or so people have flown the 117. So there is the nostalgic aspect to it......kind of like getting to fly the SR-71 or U-2.

But still, like anything else, it's a flying gig that pays the bills.

Just for a joke, if the captain was a former A-6 driver, I'd lower my seat as low as it'd go, roll it aft, stare down at the NAV display and say "This feel familiar?"

Why do all the fighter guys at baseops say they would rather fly a desk then go to the F-117?Something about too much straight and level flying.And how does a single guy like yourself keep yourself sane in that little town.I guess volunteering for TDY's helps.Is there any chance to go back to the A-10 and would you go?

It must be awesome to fly the B-1. That thing is huge.
