Different companies, different contracts, different leverage. SkyWest is not organized. They couldn't have easily had a work stoppage while they were negotiating pay for those 70 seaters.
We are trying to draw a line right now. I'm not happy with the way things are going atm, but I have faith that we have the votes to get we deserve. As for bidding new aircraft, there are much better and more effective ways of sending messages to management. When you don't bid something that you'd want with better QOL and pay, you could be just giving up an opportunity. Isn't that a conflict of interest? It's not like us 50-90 seat fliers just showed up at the airlines' doorsteps and said "We'll fly these things for less!!" How we got to where we are today is a little bit more involved than that. The same people who showed indifference to "small jets" are now yelling "MINE!!!" Remember last time someone didn't bid something??
Other people, who weren't getting the flying will get it. Expensive or not, the company needs to staff those aircraft and they will. So, by not bidding the aircraft, you'll get one of two things. Either other people who want it will bid it and you'll feel like shaming them- why? They may see negotiations differently than you. The other thing that could happen is people who don't want the flying get it! I don't see good results there. A lot of unhappy people. You, the people who didn't want it, and the company now that they had to spend the money. That won't make them willing to negotiate with you. They'll want that money back.
